The 2009 NHL Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks, scheduled for New Year’s Day at Wrigley Field in Chicago, is one of the hottest tickets in sports, and for good reason. Not only does the game feature the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings led by superstars Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg, but it also will serve as the coming out party for the young and talented Chicago Blackhawks.
The NHL Winter Classic 2009 will be the second regular-season outdoor NHL game played in the United States (the Buffalo Sabres hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium last year), and the third regular-season outdoor game in League history (the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Montreal Canadiens at Commonwealth Stadium Nov. 22, 2003).
