Three contenders battling for wild NL West
How will the NL West be won? Can the Rockies — fresh off a 10-game win streak — prevail behind the power bats of Troy Tulowitzki and Triple Crown candidate Carlos Gonzalez? Will the Padres complete the storybook ending to their magical season? And what about the Giants? Is Tim Lincecum’s return to Cy Young form enough to put them over the top? Stay tuned for all those answers over the next three weeks.
There’s plenty more to be decided around the rest of baseball, too. The Rangers hold a comfortable lead in the AL West, but the Red Sox, White Sox, Twins, Yankees and Rays are all vying for the Junior Circuit’s other three postseason berths. Two of those teams will be left watching from home in October. The Phillies and Braves are locked in a heavyweight slugfest for the NL East, while the Cardinals are still lingering behind the Reds in the NL Central picture.
Even with game #162 quickly approaching, little is set in stone.
